Radiology
Radiology Pre Examination

Not all practices in our Group perform this examination.

Your patient will require an appointment. Please ask your patient to telephone on the first day of their menstrual period, so this examination can be scheduled within 10 days of the last day of the menstrual period. This ensures there is no possibility of your patient being pregnant.

Please advise your patient to call us if there is any PV spotting on the day of the appointment as we need to delay the examination.

See contrast media for more information.
This examination requires contrast medium to be introduced into the uterine cavity.

Radiology

Radiology
Radiology The Examination
A Radiologist and a radiographer will perform the examination.
The test will usually take between 20 and 40 minutes.

Only a small part of this examination time is taken to introduce the contrast medium.

Contrast medium will be introduced through a slender catheter inserted into the cervix. The Radiologist takes Xray images immediately after the introduction of the contrast and at least one other delayed image.

There may be intervals between imaging to determine if the contrast medium flows along the fallopian tubes. The Radiologist and Radiographer will inform your patient about the examination as it proceeds.

Radiology Post Examination
The patient will leave the examination room with a menstrual pad and may report some PV spotting.

Some women experience pain similar to period pain due the flow of contrast media from the fallopian tubes

The images will be sent to your patient
You will receive a copy of the Radiologist's interpretation of the study.
